So I've been trying to get in to this hybrid picking thing and I find it's quite awkward for some things. It's great for sweep picking type licks, although it's taking me a while to get my speed and smoothness up. It's also good for string skipping stuff!

Here is an example I wrote, influenced by Brett. I play this lick over a Bbmaj7 chord leading to a Gm9 in the next bar:

Now, when I am playing this lick I use my pick for everything - I think that Brett might perhaps use his pick and fingers for that lick, perhaps picking the first note on the next highest string with his middle finger. I have tried hybrid picking for that lick but it just feels wrong for me. How would you guys play this lick? What about the diminished lick on the last beat? Would you play that using hybrid or just pick it normally? I pick this lick normally....
