I was going through Brett's website logs this morning and I noticed that there was a disconcerting incidence of what is known as "image leeching", or "bandwidth leeching". This involves using an image (or other content) from a particular site on another site by linking directly to the original, instead of downloading the image and serving it from the other site's server. It results in the original site paying for the bandwidth used by the "leeching" site. Needless to say, I wasn't pleased to see this happening with Brett's material, and I haven't even touched on the copyright issues.
Anyway, as as result I have blocked this kind of behaviour. I have resisted replacing the requested images with punitive alternatives, so instead you just see nothing.
Unfortunately there are rare instances where this kind of blocking can have an unintentional effect on legitimate requests for those images, so if you think you might be experiencing this, please let me know.
