We are working on five prototypes at this very moment as NAMM looms ahead next week. We're not sure if all will make the NAMM. Two of those are the Modern Limited Edition 10th Anniversary model. We also have three in the works with solid color finishes.
Here are the basic specs of the Limited Edition:
Modern LE - 10th Anniversary
Premium Honduras Mahogany body, crazy Angel Quilted Maple top
Mahogany neck with African Rosewood fingerboard - no dots
Modern D Shape .780-.830
Jumbo SS frets (24 frets)
Gotoh Floyd - recessed
1.650" nut width
Sperzel locking tuners
No pickguard - rear rout
Vol, Tone, 5-way
Two Aldrich humbuckers in zebra
White Pearl special double-oval inlay at 12th fret
White Pearl side dots and logo
John Suhr signature on headstock
Only a hundred of these LE 10th Anniversary guitars will be produced.
The solid color prototypes will be identical except for the following:
Maple neck with Indian RW or Pau Ferro or Maple fingerboards
Black or Chrome hardware
SSH+ and SSV humbuckers in black
The colors will be:
Candy Orange Metallic
Nitro Burst - Candy Apple Red fading into Firemist Gold
Mercedes Blue Metallic
This new neck back shape is based on a neck from an early-80's Charvel. I'm not sure where John got it. He digitized the neck and then put his own twist to it. It feels really good. I've personally never been a fan of the flat back thin necks of the Jacksons and Ibanez RG's, etc., but I really like the feel of this new shape. It's sleek and fast but still has enough girth around the shoulders (smooth taper to the back) to really grab when you want to dig in. We will probably have a new version of the Even C Slim for the Modern as well. Does anyone want a neck shape even thicker than that for this model?
These guitars will take shred, metal, high-gain fusion and hard rock to a whole new level for you guys. We're very, very excited about the Modern and look forward to introducing 'em at NAMM. There's a huge pent-up demand for this model. People were nagging me on this model from Suhr since I was at Tone Merchants back in '04. Now it finally comes to life!
And, yes, Guthrie will get to demo these at NAMM and, hopefully, give one a whirl or two at the clinic/concerts at Tone Merchants. _________________ Ed Yoon
