Quote: | Tanya Downs
It is with great sadness and shock that we have learned of the sudden death of our good friend, Tanya Downs.
Without doubt, no single supporter has done more for us. Apart from being a wonderful friend, Tanya’s loyalty, tireless work and enthusiasm was not only inspirational but invaluable.
Tanya lived and breathed ASIA and GPS and latterly ASIA FJP, running the MySpace and Google groups with much fervor and passion.
Our thoughts and prayers are with her family. We will miss Tanya dearly.
John Payne, Guthrie Govan, Jay Schellen, Erik Norlander and Barry Solomon |
Tanya was a contributing member of this forum always updating us on the activities of ASIA & GPS.
My sincere condolences to her family & friends. |

From www.johnpaynemusic.com Quote: | Farewell Tanya
Today Friday September 12th Tanya Downs was cremated at Sutton Road Crematorium, Southend, England.
I thank you all for your kind words about her, she was indeed an incredible person.
At her funeral they played, 'Far Cry', 'Song For You' and 'Ready To Go Home'.
I prepared a eulogy which my brother, Matthew, read at the funeral.
Here is a transcript of it
TANYA DOWNS
In the early 90's i joined the Classic Rock Band, ASIA. Now some sixteen years later, and not wiser, I still don't have a proper job!
Throughout the years i have meet many supporters of our music but only one person continually stood out as our greatest fan. That person was Tanya.
I have not met anyone so dedicated to us and I know I never will again.
If ever I needed help finding our old press, rare recordings or memorabilia, I would call or email Tanya, not my manager.
She would spend hours scanning documents for us, making mp3's or designing and running our Myspace.
In fact Tanya was not just a fan, fan is the wrong word, she was a great friend, a staunch defender, an expert who kept confidential matters about the band to herself.
Her tireless work spreading the word for us increased our fan base and informed people accurately of recordings, concerts and news well before our web site did..
She had built a network of several thousand friends all created by her hard work.. Tanya's influence was invaluable and irreplaceable.
Her personal support to me gave me strength to get through some difficult times and continue with the band.
Tanya was indeed part of our team, friend and family.
Her untimely death shocked so many of us and i have been inundated with tributes to her from fans all over the world. Through her work she had many friends who will miss her comments, posts and insight so much.
The last time we spoke she had incredible excitement for the future with her upcoming involvement with the ASIA and GPS web sites and her trip she had booked to see us perform in Germany in November.
We all loved Tanya and the world is a emptier place without her.
I will miss my friend so very much. I thank her for all she has done and so unconditionally.
Perhaps one day the sadness will be comforted by the celebration of the life of a wonderful giving person who gave so much to so many.
She made a huge impression to many people and never ever realized for one minute how important she really was.
Goodbye dear friend, till we meet again.
Love always
John |

very very sad. don't know what to say. the contributions she made here was of the best sort, but that's of course unimportant compared to what her family and friends must go through.
my sympathy to all of them that was close to her.

I'm really shocked to hear of this. It's another reminder of how fragile life can be. I've never met her but I could tell that she was full of life and enthusiastic about virtually everything. Her passion for all things Asia/GPS will sorely be missed. In fact, she really was the only source we could rely on for anything related to Asia/GPS here on the GG Forum. But other than that, she just seemed like such a sweet and compassionate type of person. This is very sad, indeed. RIP, Tanya. You'll be missed. Our thoughts are with your family and loved ones. _________________ Ed Yoon
