The funny GG YouTube comment of the day:

By YT user kierandoyle1992:

"no offense to dime but never compare him to guthrie govan please aha"

After someone posted that he thought Guthrie "might be" as good as Dimebag or something like that.

Laughing

Dime was great and he's sorely missed but indeed, he was no Guthrie Smile

Well, that's the whole point, isn't it? When people compare apples to oranges, they're not going to get anywhere. The thing is that no one is going to play Dimebag's style better than Dimebag did and you can say the same for Yngwie, Holdsworth, Metheny, Beck, Thal, Lane, Garsed, Landau, Henderson, and perhaps hundreds of other great original stylists. And, of course, Guthrie has his own style that's instantly recognizable - well, at least to us hardcore GG fans... Smile

Well, at least Guthrie isn't the only monster virtuoso getting criticized by the jazzhole elitists over at TGP...

some people just have too much time on their hands and no real problems in their life.

elitism and snobism is actually not a bad thing per se imho -- to a certain degree. but if it makes you incapable of recognizing the fact that there's sooo many different kinds of music, and approaches to music, out there, then you're in trouble.

som people seem to 'listen' to music with a check list of genre specific rules in their hands.

it's foookin scotty anderson man!

Well, a couple of more lively threads about GG on the good ole Petrucci and Racer X forums for those who are interested... I had to interject. Can't help myself at times... Wink

To coin a phrase "You wouldn't let it lie!!" Smile

I might go weigh in with an opinion or two, don't have anything else taking up my time ^^

Edit:

On second thoughts, I'd rather not bother given exactly how spiteful one of those threads is becoming. I might be older than most, I might have become particularly jaded with life but honestly, I don't understand this internet attitude of having to get one up on other posters. I express my opinions, then wander off and listen to something I actively enjoy.

Analysing everything and these "debates" just suck the life out of it =/

Yeah, no need to get into it and waste time. There are always a few "troublemakers" in these types of threads but that's to be expected. I just go in to have my say to provide balanced information about the subjects on hand and leave it at that.
