So, we all know you dig Guthrie or you wouldn't be here. Name your other faves. I'll start with a little list of my own.

Jeff Beck
Mike Landau
Pat Metheny
Scott Henderson
Jimi Hendrix

David Gilmour (Pink Floyd)
Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin)
Joe Satriani
Steve Vai
Gary Moore

John McLaughlin
Allan Holdsworth
SRV
John Scofield
Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple)

That's just off the top of my head, but I guess that means that these are the guys I'd want to call up on my iPod most of the time. Gilmour, Page, and Blackmore, to me, were more about the band than the players themselves. Didn't really care for anything else they've done outside of those iconic bands.

Hmmm..

-Duane Allman (allman bros!)
-Peter Green (old fleetwood mac, check out Blues Jam in Chicago)
-David Gilmour
-Jeff Beck
-Buddy Whittington (current guitar player for John Mayall (bluesbreakers)--great blues)
-Eric Clapton (the old stuff from bluesbreakers/cream)
-Blues Saraceno
-Johnny Winter
-Greg Howe

There's probably a lot more, but those are some of the biggest influence for me as far as my guitar playing goes. There are also guys like Frank Zappa who are crazy composers but I don't really care for their guitar playing

Ohh, this could be a long list.. but the ones that first spring to mind are..

-Jeff Beck
-Derek Trucks
-Jimi Hendrix
-Andy McKee
-Antoine Dufour
-Tommy Emmanuel
-Michael Landau
-David Gilmour
-Eric Johnson
-Andy Timmons
-Carl Verheyen
-Matt Schofield
-Scott Henderson (although more so with Dog Party and Tore Down House)
-Robben Ford
-Joe Bonamassa
-Thomas Leeb

There are others like Clapton, Page, John Mayer, Joe Pass, John Petrucci, Alex Lifeson, BB King, Bob Brozman, Wes Montgomery, Charlie Christian, Danny Gatton, Dave Kilminster, Blackmore, Mark Knopfler, Eric Roche, Zappa, Slash... see, this list can go on and on. Laughing

But I'd say the aforementioned primary list are those who have the biggest influence, while the second is more those who influence through passive listening Very Happy

That's a nice list. Yeah, Allman, Peter Green, Johnny Winter and old Clapton from the Bluesbreakers and Cream days were all awesome. Haven't heard of Buddy Whittington.

I think we're going to see a whole lot of variety here. Judging by your list, one wouldn't think you'd be a Guthrie fan (although I see that Saraceno and Howe would be considered the "bridge," so to speak), but it's not at all surprising that Guthrie attracts fans of all kinds of styles.

Yeah, there are many great players I didn't list because I don't really care for their music, which is a subjective thing. There were many players I'd listen to a lot just for the great guitar playing even if I didn't really like their music, but I don't do that anymore. I have to really like the songs or the compositions (i.e., the music) for me to want to listen to anything these days.

Thanks for the list, Cass. It's interesting and cool that the players mentioned so far are much more blues-oriented. Guthrie fans have diverse tastes indeed! Very Happy
