i saw a lot of cool names and quite a few jazz cats, but no one said Kenny Burrell... I'll have to add him in there
was glad to see Jimmy Herring mentioned, that dude can play...
how about Jason Becker? never cared much for that style but I can't begin to fathom what he would be able to do if he was able to play his guitar again. |

jimi herring is so awesome. his solo album is just sick.
jeff kollman is also someone who's just to cool to be true.
marc ribot is another huge inspiration.
reves gabrels and dave tronzo did an album together which i would rank as one of the top ten guitar albums EVER! (minus all hendrix and zeppelin and a few beck albums of course.)
vernon reid used to be a huge influence. i still rank his work on the first three LC albums as some of the best around. some people with their ears in their asses don't get him -- if u don't. you will pay on doomsday.

Here is my top 10..its not really in order, but is, since the ones im most interested in pop up first
Frank Gambale
Allan Holdsworth
Danny Gatton
Brett Garsed
Shawn Lane
Richie Kotzen
Jeff Beck
Ron bumblefoot Thal
Eddie Van Halen
Yngwie
haha after about selecting 6, it got hard cause i've gone kinda out of that whole 'lead guitarist' thing long ago ..
for the last 2, ONLY their earliest of early stuff! (but to be honest i dont really listen to them as of now...maybe when im drunk or bored)
i used to love yngwies (old) solo stuff ages ago..im SO over it now, so over each and every little thing about it! but his time with alcatraz (that one album) ;its gotta be one of my favourite tones ever! plues i love the song structures
and as for eddie...VH1's tone; enough said
for each of those players ive gone with a phase, where id listen to the same player for months, then get into another guy when i feel abit more interested in, say, a specific tone or watever..the only thing that could make me want something thats full-on-guitar nowadays is the tone.. _________________ cheers guys |

In no particular order:
Wayne Krantz (love the spirit of freedom and coolness in his music)
John Scofield (gentlemanly cool, wish I were that classy )
Scott Henderson (funky, ballsy, cool right-on-the-edge feel)
Ray Gomez (relate to him musically AND personally)
Nguyen Le (if I had to choose one person to sound like, it would be him)
"cool" seems to be the keyword with all of them |
