So has Guthrie completely stopped using the whammy now? Or was that just one gig where he didn't use it? |

He said in a recent interview that as much as he loves the Whammy, it was a real tone sucker in the bypass mode and he decided that he couldn't deal with that anymore. _________________ Ed Yoon

Here are some gear pics from the Plainfield, IL show on August 1st, 2009
Keep in mind that he borrowed the Cornfored Roadhouse 50 and I don't know how much of his pedal board was actually his.

he seems to still be using the red bear picks, eh?!? are they worth it? because i am just thinking about ordering a crapload of jazz III xl's... but if those are worth it...
hmmm...
and do you guys also recommend the fast fret? i tried it once on my strings, said eh, but if guthrie uses it, it must be good, no? _________________ "What's wrong with being sexy?" - Nigel Tufnel |

The Suhr pedals are his now. He'll need more time with the Shiba Drive pedal at the Bassment but he definitely digs the Koko Boost. He did borrow the Diamond Memory Lane pedal. The Boomerang looper is something he's had for many years and is very useful during clinics. His Peterson tuner pedal started going bad so he borrowed my Peterson Strobo Flip tuner for most of the tour. The Boss volume pedal was borrowed as well. _________________ Ed Yoon

Yes, I'd say Guthrie is definitely a Red Bear pick guy now. He's still working with Red Bear on what would be the ultimate pick for him - size and thickness wise... It takes Guthrie a while to decide on something like that as he needs to gig a lot with 'em to get a good idea.
Yes, he does seem to like giving old strings a quick once-over with the Fast Fret before a gig. _________________ Ed Yoon

Great to know that Guthrie is really digging the Koko Boost. He can do whole gigs with just that pedal and a single-channel amp, which is exactly what he did for most of the recent clinic tour. _________________ Ed Yoon
