i would have loved to be there. there's definitely some great stuff done with the metropole. some of it feels less urgent though. why not write new music for an orchestra? (a ? of money i guess.) the arragements of some of the stuff doesn't really add anything (well, if you're in the room when they're playing, it's a different story).

keneally's solo piano arrangements though are really great. check put gary husbands solo piano renditions of holdsworth tunes as well. great stuff.

as a composer, vai hasn't done anything more interesting than what he did during the 80's imho. ("chronic insomnia", "there's something dead in here", "greasy kid's stuff", "bledsoe bluvd", "little pieces of seaweed").

not that the post fire garden vai is anything but greatness. it's just that he lost me while gaining new fans. give me "eat 'em and smile any day!"

.

As far as new stuff goes there's alot of new stuff on sound theories, his orchestral album, as far as i can remember. If not new, previously unreleased anyways.

On the whole electric/orchestra thing i thought Metallica's work with the L.A orchestra worked really well.
