UK's 'Guitarist' magazine has just published a nice review of Guthrie's new Signature Set-Neck with a good sprinkling of comments about the guitar from Guthrie himself. Cool

I must confess that despite being absolutely not into rock that thing intrigues me - I too share the belief that an SG is the basis for an awesome guitar - if that was pointy and sloped like an SG I'd already be holding one ... and probably be divorced Very Happy

I love the "plain jane" philosophy too but really because I think the lack of "noise" highlights the amazing build quality of Suhrs and the quality of the woods used. Quilted maple is lovely but it's icing on the cake - if the cake isn't tasty who cares about the icing... whereas this is like a Victoria Sponge lightly dusted with icing sugar - it doesn't need icing.

I remember handing Guthrie my Jem guitar at the Manchester clinic for him to sign. I'd sanded the Jem down from it's original too flash white finish down to bare wood and gave it an oil finish which looks really nice.

Guthrie said he really like the finish on it and thought it looked better than the original. The next thing I see is Guthrie playing a similar bare wood Suhr model a couple months later with a similar finish.

I sometimes like to think I might have influenced that decision Razz One can dream eh?

Anyways, this new GG model looks pretty damn good!

Guthrie and I actually started talking about a "Nuno" version of the original Signature Model around a year ago during the summer clinic tour of the US/Canada northeast. We weren't thinking of a set-neck because that wasn't even on the radar at Suhr, but when the idea for the set-neck was hatched in the fall of last year, I decided it made perfect sense to do a new GG Signature in all-Mahogany in satin finish with set-neck construction.
