|
|
Well, over the years I've seen Guthrie live several dozens of times and it never ever gets tiring (definitely plenty of awesome memorable shows), but last night's Anaheim Bass Bash gig featuring Guthrie, Marco and Bryan takes the cake for me. It wasn't just an all-star jam of three incredible virtuosos but a real band performance where the whole was greater than the sum of its parts. There was a level of interplay and a sense of cohesion that was uncanny. They were all pushing each other to do things they haven't done before and it was just beyond mind-boggling.
It was obvious that they really, really enjoyed playing together and they were also listening to each other while being dynamic, sensitive, grooving, musical and all those other intangible qualities while throwing in plenty of display of otherworldly technique that never took away from the music being played. I believe there's something special brewing here. Guthrie tends to feed off the drummer more than any other band member and Marco gave Guthrie plenty to feast on.
And Marco... What a super cool guy he is. He's really down-to-earth and humble with a boyish enthusiasm for what he does - just like Guthrie. His drum solo brought down the house. You just couldn't help but holler after it. But, ultimately, what was so cool was how attentive he was to everything else going on and just telepathically know what Guthrie was doing after just one rehearsal on Thursday. Even at the rehearsal I was thinking: "Geez, these guys sound like they've been playing together for years!" There was an amazing synergy going on that you could feel as you heard them play together. A religious experience, man... I still can't get over what I saw last night. _________________ Ed Yoon

Well, things have been set in motion for this new super power trio to record a new album in late-April for summer release and then start a series of regional tours. All three members are super excited about this project and I believe we are witnessing the birth of Cream for the 21st Century. Stay tuned! _________________ Ed Yoon

As far as the label and distribution, that's something that the three of them will need to work out once they record the album. _________________ Ed Yoon
