It's just that Basswood mates extremely well with a Maple top. It has a certain synergy with a very even and balanced tone. _________________ Ed Yoon

To my ears t sounds kind of dull, lke it doesn't have that carachter like other tone woods. It is quite a big leap from the defined mids of the mahogany.Thx Ed
Just got back from a Guthrie clinic/Aristocrats show, and he demoed his new guitar there. Turn out that the exact reason he likes it is that sort of open-ended nature the basswood has, combined with the stability of the roasted maple neck. "Prettier, glassier cleaner sounds" he said. Even so, the guitar he hears in his head is still mahogany, so I would guess that all of his signature guitars will have a place in what he does.
