Here's my bedroom and hotel room guitar rig: the Suhr GG Sig Model hooked up to an Apogee Jam interface going into the iPad 2 running Peavey's AmpKit app and finally driving the $45 iHome iHM79 portable speakers. I love it. It's the perfect volume level for just playing in the bedroom and is obviously ultra portable.

The AmpKit sounds really, really good and is surprisingly dynamic. Personally, after owning a boutique guitar store for three years and then working at Suhr for six years, I'm totally over the gear fetish and am more than happy with my two Suhr guitars, one cheap acoustic and playing through software modelers on my Mac, iPad and iPhone. No more GAS! Very Happy

Although it it true that "the sound quality of any sound chain is equal to the sound quality of the worst of its elements", sometimes these kind of options are surprisingly good.

Someday I will substitute the small Vox DA5 I have for playing and practising at home for an emulation for more versatility and sound quality. I still don't know if it will be an Axe-Fx or if any cheaper software option could be good enough.

Ed, nice to know you're still alive! Smile
