hi

i am thinking about buying the mk 50 but not sure
because when i played the mk 50 and used the footswitch from
distorted to clean it did'nt go completely clean.
would i need a pedal or just get a hellcat instead.

You can get the MK50 to be fairly clean if you have the first preamp volume knob fairly low with one of the masters turned up, but then you wouldn't be able to get the great over-the-top distortion with the amp, which requires you turn both the preamp volume and the overdrive gain knob all the way up.

If you need complete control over both channels' gain and volume levels, the Hellcat is definitely the way to go.
