I'm surprised this guy doesn't get mentioned more around here. I've been playing/listening to alot of his Extreme stuff lately and its head and shoulders above what most guys were doing back then. His rhythmic ideas, alternate picking, and of course "that tapping lick" were so well executed.....He must have had at least a passing influence on Guthrie's development at some point?

I remember reading an interview with Vai a while back and he said that he'd always felt Nuno could be a mega-star, up there with the likes of Prince etc....I can honestly see why he could say that, and to this day it amazes me he doesn't get more attention.

What do you guys think? Axe-weilding genius? One trick pony? I've also heard some of his latest Population One stuff, and he's doing a great job as a frontman and guitarist there.

ps. As great as I thinkhe is there's simply no excusing the down-right ugliness of his signature Washburns! Wink

I think he's a good case of the guy that crashed with the band. When Extreme burned up, it seems people lost interest in what he had to do. I know he's a great player and a fine all-around musician, but we all know it takes a lot more than that to get the recognition and the buzz going. I have to admit that I haven't heard anything of his since the last Extreme albums.

I've got his first solo CD ( Schizophonic?) and it's great but have lost touch with what he's done since. I'll have to get the Population One stuff as I do like his playing a lot.

Cheers,
Alun
