I read this rather heartbreaking news from Scott Jones on his forum yesterday and I spoke with him briefly today on the phone:

Words are difficult to come by for things like this in life. I'm sure Guthrie, who got to meet Scott during NAMM this year, and us fans and members of this community will all send our prayers, best wishes, and any help/support that we can realistically provide. _________________ Ed Yoon

Certainly my heart goes out to him. What a mass of conflicting emotions. Despite Voltaire's resounding dismissal of the philosophy, I advocate that everything turns out for the best... or perhaps Nietzsche's less woolly "what doesn't kill me makes me stronger".
I sometimes think people with Downs are not afflicted just poorly equipped for modern life, they are however boundless in enthusiasm and love. I hope that the Doctor is wrong and Scott's child is healthy and able to grow and become self-sufficient, if not I hope that Scott and his familly every speed in finding the good in their new situation. _________________ Fabulous powers were revealed to me the day I held my magic Suhr(d) aloft and said "by the power of great scale!"
I have the power! |

Yes, our hearts all go out to Scott, who is not only a truly gifted player and musician but a deeply faithful person who is kind and caring of the community he serves. He is a part of this community of great guitar playing musicians and fans as well, having met Guthrie in January during the NAMM festivities here and inviting Guthrie to play on his next album. Sometimes life throws you the weirdest (and at times most unfortunate) curves and we have to find the strength and the resolve to work our way through. Let us lend our support to Scott so that he and his family will find the ways to work through it all. _________________ Ed Yoon

Well, it's official as stated on the Petrucci Forum:

May God give Scott and Family the strength, the will, and the love they need to raising their newborn John to be the special son that they've always dreamed of. _________________ Ed Yoon
