I think if you have the talent you will probably get noticed. Gigging always helps to get your name out. Also playing super fast shred licks at high volumes in music stores will draw attention. |

Why not state how it is you'd like to be noticed/regarded as a guitar player? That would give us better clues to answer your question. If you're not clear about the vision you have for your career, it'll be a lot harder to work toward anything substantial.
Frankly I hear a lot of really so-so players getting tons and tons of recognition by distributing sound clips. It doesn't take much to be highly regarded online by communities of tin-eared diatonic guitar players...but that and $1.80 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbuck's. _________________ Less ebay, more Mel Bay |

rovers,
my suggestion to you about getting noticed is this...don't even spend your time worrying about it. practice as much as you can, get a bunch of cool friends to play with, and let the powers of the universe take their course.
the best people that i've ever played with have never even thought about getting noticed. they play music because it is in them and they love it, weather 5 people hear them play or 50,000, they are happy.
people who play with the goal to be rich and famous are full of ego and no humility which is totally sefl destructive to a guitarist and to your human persona for that matter.
look at guthrie, he is one of the greatest guitarist alive and he seems really humble, nice, and just happy to be playing. besides those of us in the guitar community, he isn't even know and that does'nt stop him from doing his thing and he is one of the greatest ever. but when the opportunity has risen, his practicing and dedication and love for music has always gotten him the job and he'll be making a living playing music his whole life. even if he is never a super millionaire, he'll be happy.
let guthrie be your inpiration if you want to be noticed. i like having a guy like him as my guitar hero because he is true to the music and himself. |
