Hi Y'all.

I was an early student and champion of Guthries and have a copy of the first demo he did, when attracting the attention of shrapnel etc. I don't know whether it would be of interest to anyone if converted to mp3, or more importantly if guthrie would be happy to have it put out there. It's obviously from when he was less developed as a musician, but his technique is amazing and it's still interesting listening, Rhode Island shred is on there.
Obviously I wouldn't want to piss off the big man, but it looks like there are some pretty hard core fans on here that would like a listen. Would do you think?
All the best

I think i'd give my left testicle (my only good one that is) to get ahold of those mp3's... as in yes we would be interisted, but only if it would not offend Mr. Govan! Very Happy

Uhhh... I don't think Guthrie would be hip to this. He cringes at the mention of his old recordings. I suppose that if the stuff is out there he can't stop you from posting them somewhere, but since this is his official forum, I think it'd be best that we respect his thoughts on this matter. I've listened to some of the old stuff ( including RIS that was recorded when he was 18 ) and it's pretty amazing, but I agree with Guthrie that he was just a kid at the time ripping loose with less-than-desirable tone and musicality. Let's just wait for the upcoming debut album! Wink

yeah, he was around that. To be honest, about six months after he had produced it he wasn't happy with it, but I didn't know if he had chilled out since then and would be ok with it. If he wouldn't then obviously i won't post them. It's a shame though, there's a few stinkers on there, but there's also some really nice moments. We'll leave it with the big cheese. Adios

Just wondered, what did he record the early stuff with?? Was it real drums?, an 8 track? or other...... Any ideas folks?

I've never really asked him about it.

Guthrie used to play in a band called "Hollow Horse" with the drummer known only as Dave Oliver.. who also shared a flat for a while with Guthrie. Dave might have done some of the drumming, I dunno.

this recording was done on an eight track, with sequenced drumming. Strangely, Guthrie also played most of the bass, despite having a shit hot bass playing brother!

Yeh Seth was in Hollow Horse
Guthrie used to play with Dave Oliver in the Band Obie One in his early days, jazz funk n stuff. Anyone else out there remember them?

Dominy, that name rings a bell. Wouldnt be female and rather "alternatively" dressed, from what I remember, by any chance?
