I want to see Guthrie with his greatest idol; Kirk Hammet...
Or that guitarist of N.E.R.D! He kicks ass too
Sorry, I'm in a lame mood.
btw: I actually liked Kirk Hammet when I had discovered the guitar and metal back in the day |

Kirk Hammets playing can be pretty sloppy IMO however, some of the solos on Puppets really fit the music well.
There's nowt wrong with liking Kirk Hammet. _________________ Virtuosity is only useful when serving a musical purpose - J.S.BARK |

Well, that may be true for some, and indeed it does fit the music, but I feel like I've outgrown Kirk Hammet in the sence that, from the stuff I've heard, he stopped making progress at some point...
It's the same with a lot of other (rock) guitarists; once they reached a certain level of financial succes, it's like they don't care about evolving further. I don't like that attitude. I remember seeing a live show on tv with Hammet standing on stage doing his typical tremolo & wah-wah thing: doing hammers & pulls and at the same time making a tremolobar dive like he had been doing since the beginning. He stood their as he totally was the man. Now I know that it's good to have a certain presence on stage, but man.... this was getting so old and boring.
In my opinion, you can see what kind of musicians you're dealing with by looking at their fans; if there's only one age category to be found (teenagers), you usually got musicians who don't evolve. And once those fans get older, like myself, they they have grown emotionally and thus demand more from the music. Kirk Hammet, with Metallica, can't meet those requirements for me anymore.
I admit though, that when I hear a song from that black album, it does sound very good, wich also has to do with the killer-ass production of that album that they, I think, never topped. I do respect what they have build up, but now I rather hear more versatile stuff, like Guthrie! |

So I had this dream that I got a home beer brewing kit and invited Allan Holdsworth over to try my results. We both got plowed and ended up out on the deck playing air guitar to ZZ Top's greatest hits. |

Hasn't Guthrie played with Richie before? I thought I saw some photos of them on stage together somewhere. |

I'll tell you what he could do - he could dominate the whole show |

The legato style of Satriani, The fast pick of Vai and the super-tapping of Guthrie... i don't know if he could get the whole show.. but he can give some spectacle... |

How 'bout this for a G-3: Govan, Holdsworth & Henderson.
Satch & Vai could handle the lights & mixing board. |

Yep, Guthrie has played live with Richie a ton of times, a really cool one was Guthrie and Richie jamming with Stevie Salas on Bass and Peter Riley on drums at the NEC Birmingham , got that one on Video and a recording we took from the desk.
Richie and Guthrie are really good friends and drinking buddies, G tells me that Richie is totally in his top 5 players ever.
