Was listening to Guthrie’s lesson on comping and soloing ‘the Hammond B3 style’ in a Guitar Technique CD (no accomp. mag) Sad – I love the ‘electric organ’ tone Guthrie achieved – Any info on the setup Guthrie uses on the recording, guys and gals?

Come on ppl – you’re discussing thousands of dollar worth of rack effects and pedals worth up to half a grand each – sounds like everyone here is a tone connoisseur – are you guys mostly collectors or players? Come on and help a player here with your input… Very Happy

Cheers.

I don't know about the recording, but for live performances, he now uses an Analog Man Clone Chorus with the speed and the rate turned up fairly high (around 2 o'clock) to get that warbling Hammond sound. He used the Visual Sound H20 chorus/delay before, but he really digs the Clone now. You can get some really nice Leslie simulations with the Clone as well by turning the speed knob up even higher.

Thanks for the insight Ed...

Haven't personally heard the Analog Man's Clone but was told numerous times of it's deep chorus quality. Will check it out soon along with the H20...

Anyway - in the lesson Guthrie not only produced some great B3 tone - his 'keyboard'-like phrasing was amazing. Check it out ppl...

Yep, people trip out when they hear Guthrie doing the Hammond comp. It's definitely the chord note choices and the phrasing that make his comping sound so authentic. The Clone is a great chorus. You can't get a bad unusable sound out of it no matter how you tweak the controls.
