I'm getting a lot more into fusion so I thought I'd have a pop at this.
The excellent backing track came from the Holdsworth forum.

Hope you guys like it! Smile

YOU SUCK!

not Embarassed

really really great! as usual. damn, your timing and phrasing in the fast ultra sexy legato phrases rules! again you've made me stay home from work and practice!

not too fond of the reverb though ...

not to take anything away from your playing -- it's great and personal -- but you do have a somewhat guthriesque sound -- especially your way of using chromatic passing tones (i think).

Thanks for your feedback sumis although Im very concerned about your last point. One of the most essential things I strive for is an individual voice on the guitar. Im certainly influenced by Guthrie but I would not be happy if someone thought I was some sort of copy. Im sure youre not inferring that but as I said, individuality is extremely important to me.

please rick, don't get me wrong. to me you definitely have a personal sound. if i'd experienced you as a too deriviative player i wouldn't have been very impressed. your chops are ... Shocked Laughing but so are your timing, note choice and over all feel. i just like it Exclamation

still, there are some, sometimes recurring, phrases in your playing that reminds me of the way guthrie uses chromaticism. that's all i meant. and i meant it in a very simple way -- if not trivial. i've heard it in other clips of yours as well, and it is NOT something that makes you derivative in a negative way or a copycat. i guess it is just a similarity. and a positive one.

i appreciate that you value my comment since i have the deepest respect for your playing, but you shouldn't worry Wink you rock!

I suppose the things that you've mentioned are elements of phrases that I may have subconciously digested from Guthrie and other players who have influenced me. Anyhoo, its cool to get feedback of any sort and its great to know that you took the time to listen to how I played. Smile

BTW: that avatar of yours... is there a story behind it? Does it represent something personal in relation to music?

Are you a very theoretical person for instance? And into note reading/writing? Big fan of Classical music as well?

Or perhaps all of these things Wink

Its quite simple really. J.S.Bach is my favourite composer.

Sumis - if I've influenced you in any way, that, to me, is amazing. Its why I picked up the guitar in the first place. Very Happy
