For those who haven't seen the close-up pics, here they are. This amazing guitar was completed in late-November '03 and was given to Guthrie in May, '04, so it's already almost a year old!
The stars and the planets must have been aligned for this very fortunate guitar when it was being put together. After all, it ended up in the hands of Guthrie and is getting played by him! What more can a guitar ask! _________________ Ed Yoon

BTW, it plays and sounds even better than it looks... Guthrie can vouch for that! _________________ Ed Yoon

What type of bridge is that and how does it compare to a floating Wilkinson style? _________________ What would we all do without guitars............. take up knitting? |

That info is on the other thread about this axe but I'll post again here:
Basswood Body with Quilt Maple Top - Root Beer Color
Birdseye Maple neck in Slim C shape (.800-.880 neck thickness from 1st fret to near the butt) with Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard
16" fingerboard radius
6105 Stainless Steel frets - tall and narrow
1.650" nut width
Sperzel Trim-Loc locking tuners
Fishman Standard Piezo bridge/tremolo
Suhr DSH+ pickup for bridge position
Suhr V60LP single-coil in the middle position
Suhr DSV pickup in the neck position
Special 5-way wiring with push-pull pot:
1. Neck humbucker only
2. Neck outside coil and middle pickup
3. Neck outside coil and bridge pickup outside coil (quasi-Tele)
4. Middle and bridge inside coil
5. Bridge humbucker only
With push-pull tone knob engaged, the bridge pickup is added to the 1st and 2nd positions.
Lots of very useful sounds with no extraneous switches and knobs, etc. The guitar came with the Fishman piezo-equipped bridge and the Fishman Blender pedal with built-in preamp and EQ, so the guitar itself doesn't have any onboard EQ and things like that. It has a TRS stereo jack with both the magnetic and piezo signals coming out when using a TRS stereo cable or only the magnetic signal when using normal guitar cables.
Guthrie has an Evidence Audio TRS-to-TRS cable specifically made for this guitar. It would go into the Fishman Blender pedal and this pedal would then split the signal and you can send the magnetic signal to your chain of pedals and then to the guitar amp. The other peizo signal can come out as balanced XLR or 1/4" and that can be sent to a mixer or an acoustic amp, etc.
I was actually surprised to hear that Guthrie was using the piezo feature on this guitar. It was not something I asked from Suhr. They said, "Why don't you add it for demo purposes?" I wasn't enthusiastic about it because I never cared for the piezo sound on an electric, but I told them that'd be okay as long as I didn't have to add any more knobs and other electronic junk on the guitar and that it didn't compromise the normal magnetic signal whatsoever.
Glad to know that Guthrie is using it. I'm sure it's a useful sound to add especially when blended with the magnetic signal of the neck humbucker and the single coil mode of the split neck humbucker and the middle pickup. The piezo should add presence and that acoustic type of clarity to that magnetic sound, making the entire sound fuller and more lively. _________________ Ed Yoon

I don't know who manufactures that bridge. It's called a "Fishman Standard" bridge and it's based on the Fender American Standard bridge. It's spongier feeling than the Wilkinson. Guthrie said that he actually prefers this kind of a bridge over the Wilkinson for some reason. _________________ Ed Yoon

I think we got treated to that last night, it reminds my of the Bazouki playing Zappa did with Jean Luc Ponty.. not sure which album.. _________________ Fabulous powers were revealed to me the day I held my magic Suhr(d) aloft and said "by the power of great scale!"

Lucky dogs, you! I can see the piezo quack being ideal for that sort of a sound. Was he blending the piezo and the magnetic signals or was he using the piezo alone? _________________ Ed Yoon

Funny you should mention that as Suhr advised me yesterday that the guitar will be delivered here next week. Ahhh, so I get to break it in for him until he comes out here in January. _________________ Ed Yoon
