I don't think Guthrie is limited by gear.. something we all wish we had I'm sure. I love seeing guys like that because it makes me realize that 'Tone' and 'Gear' are really just a SMALL part of the real equation. |

Definitely! I'd rather listen to someone like Guthrie or Jeff Beck through a Pignose or a Gorilla than myself through this $40K showcase demo rig I have at the shop!
I really believe the player makes up about 80~90% of the sound. And that's what I try to convey to my customers about tone and gear. So many people think it's the gear and that's just not the case. Many come over or call me thinking that the gear will solve all of their problems in regards to tone and it's really a matter of them looking inside their heads first.
I say, get that part squared away first. And then look at the gear to enhance what you are trying to get across sound-wise and musically. _________________ Ed Yoon

Back on thread.. pignoses... I'll be happy to test this theory sometime.. if someone has a schematic for a pignose or can draw one.
The guy who bought Pignose in the 80s is a bit of a corporate monkey, so is trying to sell the schematic for $5 + $7 p&p.. okay so Marshall and Soldano schematics are easy to download for free but not one for a lo-tech ox blood tranny amp.
I even tried to buy it from him and he stuffed up the credit card payment... Grrr
stuck at work till eleven, thank heavens for hourly rates _________________ Fabulous powers were revealed to me the day I held my magic Suhr(d) aloft and said "by the power of great scale!"
