OK, first of all I would like to apologize, especially to Paul, for complaining about the delivery time on the CD. It has finally turned up! Thank you. I hope everyone else who ordered their copy very early on finds something nice in their mailbox today
Secondly, I had to stop and post this message just 2 minutes and 2 seconds into Waves because after the first ... what would you call it ... "chorus"?, and back into the "verse" melody, that I had tears in my eyes. I will point out that no other album has had this effect on me before. I'm off to listen to the rest of it now. I will carry on listening and post about my feelings on this -- what seems to be a very special album -- later.
Thanks you, Guthrie, for blessing us with something so magical! And I should also point out that Seth sounds wonderful on this so far. Damn, I haven't even listened to more than a few minutes of it!
Well I apologize once more for being such an emotional twat! What a great album. I only have a couple of minor gripes about it -- 1: the length. I didn't want it to end! Another 5 or 10 mins long would have been good, but it's better to be left wanting more than to be over-stuffed. And 2: those little fade-out's on the first solo of Waves and in the solo of Ner Ner. Those were'nt exactly the best examples of mixing I've ever heard, and personally I would have let the notes fade naturally. But who cares? This is a landmark album and I'm happy for Guthrie, Cornford and all involved. I'm also happy for Ed Yoon and his undying support for G over the last few years.
So when is the next one coming out?
EDIT: Oh yeah, this record really makes me want a Cornford! (Not that I didn't before). What a great advertisement for Suhr and Cornford this album is.

Hey Dee, glad you really love the album. 'Passion & Warfare', some 15 years ago, was the last guitar instrumental album that had such a deep impact on me and this one definitely takes it up a notch or two in every respect. And before that, it was Satch's 'Surfing' and before that, Yngwie's 'Rising Force'. And before that, 'Friday Night in SF'. 'EC' joins some select company in my book. _________________ Ed Yoon

I agree 100%. Back in the day, the "P&W" and "Surfing" had a great impact on me too, just as Van Halen 1 did. I only pray that G's album is recognized for being the very important step forward that it is.
The great thing is, all these albums reach out to a much broader audience than just the hardcore guitar fraternity. Over here, a good test for Guthrie was when I put some loose tracks onto a Minidisc I made for my brother. Trying to please him is very difficult, but he really enjoys G's playing and said he enjoyed it more each time he listened. No big deal, you might think, but this for me is an achievement! He does play a little himself, but he's never been so deeply into guitar music as I am.
My girlfriend also loves Guthrie's playing, in fact she stated today that he's her favourite guitarist of all. She does have exceptional taste in music (she's into what I listen to, basically), but can be very picky indeed.
Guthrie seems to be affecting everyone who listens, obviously because the music comes first, then the mind-boggling technique.
Dee are those tears of happiness or of anguish as the prospect that u'll never be good as Guthrie becomes ever more apparent ? Where can u buy the CD? _________________ He had the unmitigated audacity to jump out from behind my igloo - peeka boo
I think I must be missing something, for as much as I love an album, any album that is, i have never actually been so overcome that i started welling up, and please no one tell me that I "dont have a passion for it", I just thinks its quite interesting how people are effected by music! _________________ "The reason why guthrie is so good, is that he doesen't spend most of his time on the petrucci forum bitching about vai"
I've always been a total sucker for music, I remember being more moved by the music in Bambi than him losing his parents... Barbers Addagio for strings is another one that always brings a lump to my throat. I guess Last Goodbye and Sky is a Landfill too... I like Miles' brighter jazz stuff to ward off gloom and Live in Japan by Mike Kenealy ... Choosing to Drown if I want to kick myself out of the dumps.
When we took my son to the cinema to watch Finding Nemo it was the music that really caught him off guard.. he wailed he was about 5 at the time, mind... he was embarrassed that he cried and his friends were there but he spent a long time choaking back tears, bless 'im
Playing some Rodrigo y Gabriela the other day while playing lego with him and he had stopped playing and was sat there eyes closed swaying his head to the music... the force is strong in my family _________________ Fabulous powers were revealed to me the day I held my magic Suhr(d) aloft and said "by the power of great scale!"

I would normally say "I'm with you on that one", because for me to be affected in such a way is VERY rare. I guess this is probably why I thought it must be worth creating a thread about! It only happened once, and you know, I don't think it was the music that affected me 100%, I was just very happy for Guthrie to have finally released his album, and to hear it sounding so great, plus I was very emotionally down at the time... so, a combination of things, really.
