Hey everyone, i am astounded by guthries technique inso many styles. wether its jazz, blues, slide, shred or country etc. however one thing i havent witnessed him doing yet is some classical guitar. has anyone saw guthrie or heard of guthrie doing any classical as i would find it really interesting to hear how he sounds with a nylon string.

I'm willing to bet Guthrie's really good at it although I don't expect him to be a Christopher Parkening or a John Williams. Guthrie has a great fingerstyle technique, so I'm sure he's proficient, but I wouldn't bet on Guthrie giving up the solid-body anytime soon! Guthrie does have a Takamine classical ("Spanish") acoustic which he used with a pick on 'Slidey Boy'. Next time I see him, I'll ask him to play something classical and I'll bet he'll blow me away as he always has. _________________ Ed Yoon

Plus, Guthrie has done a lot of studying of guys like Tuck Andress, Martin Taylor, Joe Pass, Michael Hedges, Thomas Leeb, Preston Reed and many others. I'm sure Guthrie is well aware of Tommy Emmanuel as well. I think it's going to take some time for Guthrie to come up with a solo fingerstyle acoustic piece that he could call his own. There's no doubt he could play extremely well in that style, but Guthrie isn't the type to write and record a tune unless he felt it had his own personality in it. _________________ Ed Yoon
