I've been inspired to have a go at transcribing this ( <whisper>don't tell Guthrie </whisper> Wink ).

Just jotted down the first few bars up until that totally cool lick @ 0:20.

I've uploaded the Guitar Pro file here and here's the PDF, feel free to fix/add/debate etc

I may continue with it depending on time/drive/cycle of moon etc. Wink

This is way cool. I feel like mocking the guy who says "you need to work on your tone but for your age..." Rolling Eyes Laughing yeeeeeess.. not quite getting the point are you? She's studying at Berklee College of Music.

I wonder how Guthrie feels about this stuff? I bet it must be a massive lift to have people in other countries genders and generations emulating stuff that you've done (and improv of all things ffs). I wonder if the study is part of her course work? Is Guthrie on the curriculum already? Laughing

Me too, it's like here you have someone who's been inspired and is making pretty good music and most of the comments on YouTube? Can we have the tab please. Rolling Eyes

What is it with people? This is music, it's meant to be enjoyed whether you create it or someone else creates it. Is it always going to be the case that playing something is always going to be more enjoyable/worthwhile than listening to someone else play it?

I want the tab for study purpose...I play guitar and I want to know how Guthrie build this improvisation.

As a musician I want to hear and also understand what I hear...

Sorry for my english. Hope you understand my point.

Your English is fine. I sometimes think the reason I got to moderate these forums is because I'm the person who's posts need moderating most. Sorry for my gruffness. Embarassed

I guess if I wanted to study that piece, I'd transcribe it, then ask for the tab to compare notes, that way you've already got a picture of what's happening, then you get to see the notes you missed if you get the tab (or vice versa.. or a bit of both). You can improve your transcription skills which, I think are vastly more important than a single piece of improv. It is blisteringly good, though so I can see the temptation to cut corners.

Just finished tabbing it.

http://homepage.mac.com/gavinshapiro/.Public/GovanImprov.gp5 Heres the gp5 version
http://homepage.mac.com/gavinshapiro/.Public/GovanImprov.gp4 Heres the gp4 version
http://homepage.mac.com/gavinshapiro/.Public/GovanImprov.pdf and a pdf
http://homepage.mac.com/gavinshapiro/.Public/GovanImprov.mid and a midi

Its basically Mark's first part and then i did the rest. i took out the grace notes because guitar pro has some bugs with that, so there are a few places where it might look weird with 32nd notes and 32nd note rests. But you get the idea!

some of the hammer ons and slides might be off too, but I think its pretty close for the most part. Let me know what you think!
