I've been meaning to post these clips here for a while now. It seems there have been some bugs on this site which have now been worked out. These clips are provided by the courtesy of Jan Cyrka and his new project BluesJamTracks.com. Jan reports that these are first takes. The new Suhr Standard is the latest addition to the growing stable of Suhr guitars in Guthrie's collection. It's a replica of his first Root Beer with the exception of recessed trem bridge and the SSH+ humbucker in the bridge position. Guthrie took delivery of this new axe in mid-December over in UK. The first Root Beer will now reside in LA and be available for him everytime he comes over here since he only gets to travel with the Mahogany Standard. The amp is the Cornford MK50. Amazing playing as usual and great tones!

simply wow!! I especially liked the Larry Carlton take. And the tone is just sooo sweet.
I'm inspired....I think I'm gonna purchase some of those backing tracks and jam (awesome site too, btw!) |

That's the thing about Guthrie. He's constantly saying something new - creating and inventing on the fly. There should be some footage available from his gig at TM during NAMM. That was just insane!  He had me riding on the edge of the cliff all through that gig.

You might, possibly, just maybe, I dunno, be interested to hear that there are actually FOUR MORE VIDEOS to come  We'll be putting them up on the site in the near future, so keep checking...

On a related subject, would anyone be interested in full, accurate transcriptions of those solos? I can't promise anything... we just want to find out what sort of demand there would be.

... but I think the amp he's using on the clips is the Cornford Hellcat. The MK50 (a mark 1) is on the shelf above. His current main amp is the MK50 II.

I'm sure somebody would be interested, but with the videos available, those that actually think they can play those solos can probably work it out to some degree themselves. If you were just to have the audio rather than video (though that's not preferable, I'm sure), then the transcriptions would have more value. Unless we're not talking about selling them, then I'm sure people would be happy to see them.

Here are Jan Cyrka's notes about how these clips were recorded:
"Just to let the fans know, I swear to God that these were first takes. His Suhr was plugged into a Cornford 50 Watt head into a Cornford 2X12 cab loaded with vintage 30's and mic'ed up with a Shure SM 57 and an Octava pencil condenser, both blended together to taste. TLA preamps and Manley limiting. No eq. Occasional use of a D.A.M. treble booster pedal to smooth out the peaks and make it a little easier to record. But otherwise pure as can be. The different tones all come from the guitar.......and Guthrie, of course!!!"
I think these clips were recorded at Jan's studio and Jan's got a bunch of Cornford amps, so my guess is that it's one of Jan's MK50 that Guthrie is playing through.

You're right, gadget. Jan Cyrka just confirmed that the amp is indeed the Hellcat. I myself thought that the tones on these clips were spongier than what I'd expect from the MK50, but I figured if anyone could pull it off, that it'd be Guthrie! Good catch!

I've been posting these clips wherever I thought they would generate good deal of interest. People seem to be digging them a good deal all over the place and they have helped win over new fans. We have to be persistent with spreading the word. Some guys have said that they had never heard of Guthrie until seeing these clips, so we gotta keep at it. I thought you guys may get a kick out of the thread about these clips at the Racer X Asylum.
