Sounds like th' ol' Frank Zappa pick tapping. He's doublin' up the tap usin' the side o' his pick whilst playin' th' left hand melody. To tap that fast you kinda vibrate yer wrist. Or maybe it's some crazier technique. You can hear the pick tappin' from Zappa on Inca Roads and Joe Satriani on Surfin' with th' alien.
