Hi, Can anyone recommend a particular software programme for slowing down music without changing the pitch ? I know GG prefers "Amazing slow downer" but before I spend my hard earned, I'd like to know if anyone has any other suggestions. I've seen the adds for "Riffmaster Pro", "Slowgold" etc. but no reviews.
Cheers, Chris.

I use Audacity, which is a free download. The "change tempo" function works really well, and you can import/export mp3s easily.

if u have a mac with quick time pro, there's a built in speed funcion right there. and with its ability to mark and loop, while still being a simple audio/video toolbox, it works great!

i have amazing slowdowner, garage band and pro tools, but for quickly slowing down and repeating audio, quicktime pro is the best.

I've been using the Time Stretch function in Magix Music Studio 10. It has a setting called "Smooth" along with various subsettings with results that are very clean.

You can pick up Music Studio 10 on Amazon.com for $15 right now. Version 11 came out, so they are trying to get rid of the old version.

troy grady's shredcam is good because you can slow down the video as well as audio, so you can see what frets theyre playing.

I use Transcribe 7.41 for PC. It's also available for Mac.

It has the best sound and is very easy to learn. Great for setting up loops.

The Troy Grady's shredcam sounds cool. I'll check it out.

And Linux. I use it too, it's great.

The Amazing Slowdowner's another good one.

I sometimes use EQ to bring out particular parts, although it's only ever a partial solution. Generally guitar isn't the problem... it's packed with those midrange frequencies that we all hear most clearly. Bass is generally harder to pick out, especially if the bassist is using quite a warm tone.

BTW, I use Transcribe for slowing stuff down. Ideally (as a pro transcriber) I'd recommend *not* slowing stuff down if you can help it, because it's easy to get confused by little non-pitch artefacts that are barely audible at full speed. I remember some of those magazine transcriptions in the late 80s, where they'd even notate "string noise" Rolling Eyes Laughing
