Slidey boy 1:03, Guthrie does that little solo with the mandolin like muted start..
how is he getting that sort of sound? it's got a lot of bass to it, it seems...

closest i've come is playing it high up on the G string with palm muting but it doesn't quite seem the same.. is it a special technique?

Thanks for any advice anyone! Very Happy

oh and is there tab anywhere of this? just to save me some time..

It sounds like a palm muted nylon-string guitar to my ears.

hmm i think you might be right. that solo goes all the way to about 2:50 without changing guitars, i guess that's why i didn't consider it as it sounds like a regular clean electric could be doing the rest of the solo..

but listening now, the whole thing could be nylon.. cheers Smile

The notes in the CD for the piece say it was played on a Nylon guitar Confused

Yeah, definately a Nylon String, think he's using left hand muting as oppsed to palm muting, try lightly muting the string with your left fingertip and alternate picking it very quickly with a sixteenth note triplet rhythm. works for me......good luck
