Hi everyone. I am a huge Guthrie fan and I made this account to ask this one burning question. Hopefully Guthrie himself will be able to answer it...
It's really hard to describe this and would be much easier to physically show, but my question is this:
When he plays, is Guthrie's right hand completely parallel to the strings, or is his hand (and therefore the pick) angled out and down, like most guitarists do? I have watched every video of him I could find and I can't tell from any of them which is the case. In his Lick Library videos, some things he says implies that his hand is indeed completely parallel to the strings. Picking on one string feels more efficient that way, but traveling between strings feels awkward and slow. So which is it?
And if it is parallel, how the hell does he change strings comfortably and speedily?
Guthrie, if you're currently lurking around here, please answer this question! I'll be so grateful.
And before anyone says anything: Yes, I have watched all instructional videos by him, and went through both of his awesome Creative Guitar books.
