I'm trying to speed up my alternate picking and I'm not sure whether my picking hand should move in the precise moment that I switch strings or if it should move a bit afterwards.

I generally use the palm of my hand to mute the lower strings and moving my hand as soon as switch strings helps keep my playing really clean, but it also slows me down when playing a lick like this, where I only play 1 note on the new string and then return to the original one.

How do you guys do it?
