I have noticed that you are one of the THD dealers but howcome you don't carry any of their amps? Are they not up to your standards and they don't sound as good as the other amps you have in store? |

I think they're very fine amps, but the way I see it, they've sort of become a mainstream brand available in many places (including Musician's Friend) and customers coming into Tone Merchants aren't looking for amps like that. There's also another general music equipment dealer about 7~8 miles away that carries THD amps so they're not something I stock, but I will order if someone wants to order through here. I do stock and offer the THD Hot Plate attenuators and their Yellow Jacket tube adapter/convertors. _________________ Ed Yoon

so are they(either the univalve or bivalve) what you categorized as "Man's Amps" or just "Baby Butt Amps"? Actually I am looking for a "Man's amp" head(not combo), between 10 to 15 watts, either class A or A/B, any suggestions? many thanks for your help! |

To my limited knowledge a Class B valve amp has never been used for a guitar amp (something to do with crossover distortion)... so if you said "I want a valve amp" it kinda covers both A and AB ..
I think it was the statement 'a "Man's amp"' what got me being pedantic... I've a Simms Watt MKII head under my bed, I had to sell the cab to make way for a piano.. it's a Man's amp in as much that it's heavy and loud..
Anyway, those are not the droids I'm looking for, you can be on your way. _________________ Fabulous powers were revealed to me the day I held my magic Suhr(d) aloft and said "by the power of great scale!"

Where I wrote Class A or A/B, I guess I should have wrote Class A or AB to avoid misunderstandings; and as for "Man's Amps" and "Baby Butt Amps", I was simply referring to the dicussion on cornford amps by Ed and others back a while ago under the subject title: "how would describe the cornford amps?". A "Man's Amp" is what Ed described to be "...bold, tight, and unforgiving with a punchy and thick tone that emphasizes the cutting high-mids....." |

Hey Dino, I'd definitely categorize the Flexi on the "Man's Amp" side of things. I'd say the Flexi is actually rather comparable to some of the Cornford amps in tone and tactile response although there are obviously some differences as well. As for "Baby Butt Amps", I'd definitely put Bruno amps in that category. You know, the term "BBA" is not a bad thing at all. Some low power Fenders and Vox would belong in that category. Some musical situations call for that kind of a sound and response. You don't want a raging Marshall if you're going to gig with Celine Dion or Paul McCartney, you know what I mean? Other very pretty and soft sounding amps: Bad Cat Cub IIR and a few other Bad Cats, Victoria Double Deluxe, Tone King Meteor, Divided By 13 FTR-37, etc. _________________ Ed Yoon
