So is the Degree you get from these 2 colleges equivilant to a bachelors degree in the US?

Could you now get your master's degree at Eastman or something in the US?

That would be excellent if that's true, 2 years is nothing, compared to 4 or more.

I need to find an intensive program that would let you get done in a couple years.

Thanks,

Tim

What about GIT, Berklee or the Grove School of Music?

The degree is a BA in Modern Music (Or something along those lines) and is acredited by a near by university (for BIMM it's Sussex).

I once checked out the Berklee fees for an international student.... something insane like £20-30k a year + living expenses.

The ACM one is BA honours (im sure the honours part means nothing at all) and if i remember rightly i think its acredited by middlesex university. Which is the same place as Guildford college (i think.. chris - help!)

When i did the degree is was something like towards towards £5000 a yr or even more (i cant remember) a yr after i left i think it shot down (typical) Part of the reason i left was because of the price. They actually said i could come back and complete the degree when i wanted, but when i returned home i realised there wasnt a lot of point.

Still not worth it though. If you are a guitarist and want a career out of bands, session work etc it doesn't make any difference at all. You just have to to get yourself out there straight away and do the gigs, do the sessions etc. The Higher Diploma course is more than enough to equip you for a music career.

Yeah, I looked at both Berklee and Grove School of Music about 15 years ago and it was incredibly expensive back then, especially for overseas students... I shudder to think how much it costs now!!!

I did read that when Steve Vai went to Berklee his Dad cashed in his own life insurance to support Steve... I guess that has paid off, but how many of us could establish/sustain a career like Steve Vai???

A long time ago I worked at a small privately run music school back in Australia, and I remember the owner's daughter was deciding on what career to choose (she was a brilliant flute player), and basically her Dad said "Well, how many world famous flautists and pianists do you see touring the world and making a living?" - that really put a few things into perspective for me... now compare the number of concert classical musicians compared with "dime a dozen" guitar players... the odds are pretty much stacked against the guitar players from a career perspective, don't you think???

Cheers

Actually I'd say it's harder for classical players.

With guitarists if you work hard enough there is always well paying work. Sessions, gigs, cover bands.

With classical musicians, unless you are the best e.g. Glenn Gould, Yo-yo Ma, or Sir Alred Brendel you will be probably be playing in orchestras and earning very little money (even the most famous and active orchestras in the world). Session work is far less common, you have to be really REALLY good to be releasing full recordings.
The reason people play in the orchestras is for the love of it, and to try and get themselves known.
