Forum member who goes by Doctor Jazz is also from Chelmsford. He gets to sit in with Zak and Guthrie every now and then gigging around town.

I'm from Chelmsford as are Doctor Jazz and Rob_Grimwoodtvu (Rob is the guy who shouts "'it it Seth!".. so step right up and introduce yourself Wink

Slightly further out are:

Trelliskos, Tony_Teech, WYNIR0 and a couple of other dudes from the Guitarist/GT/TG forums..

I'm going to have to go to the Bassment again soon as it's been months since I last went... having a 4 hour commute and 8 hours working puts a strain on a guy who's got a wife and kid Sad .. but the wife likes going along so...

I have been a Guthrie fan since the morning of September 7th 1987. I had just transferred to a new high school and at the first break of the day I was walking around the hallways without knowing anyone when I thought I heard someone playing Steve Vai's solo from 'Big Trouble' !

Naturally I followed the sound and ended up in the main school hall, where sitting on the corner of the stage were two guys. One was playing a red Kramer (which the other guy had bought over the summer holidays). The guy playing was Guthrie. The red Kramer now hangs on the wall in my little home studio Smile

I emigrated to the USA in 1994 and rarely make it back to the UK, but I did catch a Fellowship gig at the Bassment a while back. It's very cool that Guthrie is finally getting the recognition he deserves and that so many people are able to hear him. It's about time !

Just kidding, I go to KEGS, in fact, I talked to the music teacher about Guth.

Guthrie, if you are reading this, Mr. Sparrow says that you are the best guitarist he's ever heard, "since Eric Clapton, or that one who died, um... Jimi Hendrix."

He really said that, he also said that he would be more than happy to have you back at KEGS to give a speech/talk/discussion.

For the non-Chelmsfordians amongst us, I should point out the PoO was the Prince of Orange - Like the Mos Eisley Canteena but with more beards. Actually it was like the Leaky Cauldron in Harry Potter but with about ten Rubeus Hagrid's at any one time..

It used to be a Biker pub where all the uncool college kids and people with names like "Churchy" used to hang out. The Prince of Orange was steeped in history and acrid tobacco smoke, so they turned it into an Irish theme pub and sanitized it Crying or Very sad they've done he same to the Army and Navy too and the YMCA Sad .. the bassment is one of the few musical venues left.

The Prince of Orange was on Hall Street, Hamlet Road is further up Moulsham Street towards the College. I used to run past it every lunch time after two snake bit and blacks at the Prince of Orange on my way to the gym where I'd bench press till I couldn't move (having pumped alcohol to every recess Wink)
