Hi all. Whats that Les Paul type guitar Guthrie uses for just one of his songs? Its got the mother of pearl looking inlays. I presume its his detuning guitar or something. Wondered what make it was? |

I think you are talking about the guitar he uses on Ner Ner on the dvd. Its a Sugi I think. It has bat inlays in the body. I played it at TM and I instantly fell in love. Im positve Ed can tell you much more... |

Yup, that's exactly the one. Guthrie really likes that guitar a lot as well. It's made in Japan by Nick Sugimoto's new guitar company, hence, the name Sugi. Nick was a designer and builder at the Fujigen company/factory that manufactured a lot of the high-end Ibanez and Fender Japan guitars. He's the one who designed the Jem, the George Benson model, the Pat Metheny model besides many others.
This Sugi has a chambered (almost hollow) Mahogany body, Mahogany neck with Ebony fingerboard, 24.75" scale, 12" radius, and Sugi humbuckers. The guitar feeds back really well. The model name is SH486 but I think it should be renamed Ner Ner. It really has become the Ner Ner guitar. He does use drop-D tuning on that song. _________________ Ed Yoon

i played this guitar at ed's in january. beautiful guitar and plays great. very resonant with that chambered body. i remember seeing it as $3700 list and around $3200 street-price. indeed, somehow it has become the perfect guitar for that song. |
