There was a funny moment on the Nov 20 gig. There was a tune where Allan started off playing solo and was doing his trademark chordal volume swells with those expression pedals. It's super quiet in that room with no ambient noise whatsoever. You could barely whisper in there without getting heard. Allan was playing these beautiful quiet chordal passages when we all heard these annoying creaking noises. Mad

At first, I thought it was someone in the audience rocking on the foldup chair or something. Then Allan shouted, "JESUS!!! I forgot to oil the expression pedal!" It was the expression pedal creaking as Allan rocked it back and forth! Laughing People broke out in laughter and Allan laughed, too, but knowing Allan, I'm sure it must have eaten away at him big time!

As far as the gear is concerned... When you're talking about players the caliber of Allan, Guthrie, Scott Henderson, Mike Landau, Jeff Beck, etc., it really doesn't matter what they play through; they're going to sound great and sound like themselves. It's amazing to observe how much of it is really in the hands and the minds of the player. And I've become more and more convinced of this since I've been running this business having witnessed countless players sound so different through the same rigs.

I've seen and heard Strat players sound warm, round and full through what I consider to be bright sounding amps and 335 or LP players sound bright, jagged and thin through what I consider to be warm sounding amps. Really weird... Confused But that's how it goes. Gear is such a small part of the equation. The way I see it, the gear is simply the "translator" of what your mind and hands are doing.

that rig is insane Shocked

Carlo - there's a bunch of us who will be at the BB King's show. Let's figure out a way to identify each other. Maybe we can announce beforehand what t-shirts we will be wearing or something.

As for Allan's rig, it's the simplest he's had in years and very easy to figure out. Amazingly, no matter what he's playing through, he still sounds like Allan!

awesome, will see you there. Smile

and that expression pedal story is hilarious Laughing
