Despite the critisism against Malmsteen, I think this song remains a classic nevertheless Smile

Unfortunately, you can't save this one to disk. If anyone finds out how, pls tell me. It seems to be a reference moviefile...

Probably Yngwie's quintessential tune... It's just too bad that I expected him to write around 30 more like these by now...

Yawn... sorry just being sarcastic! It is one of my favourite tunes too... That whole "look at me smash my guitar just like Ritchie Blackmore" thing is so "out", but I guess it's his guitar and he can do whatever he wants with it!!!

Looks like Yngwie is going bald!

I think Yngwie is coming to Hong Kong for a tour, but I don't think I'll give him anymore of my hard earned money.

Wow, sorry to bash Yngwie so much!

I took my HK Chinese girlfriend to see Steve Vai last year and she said "Ok la...", but when I played her Yngwie's Rising Force album she said "Wow, that's a lot more musical than Steve Vai". She really liked it - but hey, what would she know, right???

Smile

Cheers

I know! It's Homer Simpson in drag!

Notice how he swaps out his guitar for another one that he smashes (probably some cheap Mexican or US Strat...).

My Dad used to run a folk club, where a regular act was one guy who'd swap guitars for a protest song, then throw the battered guitar into the audience where a stooge caught it... except for one week when either a regular got bored or an enterprising musician decided to intercept the guitar mid flight and legged it out the door...

To add insult to injury, this gesture got a round of applause bigger than the muso on stage had ever recieved.

Ynwie seems to be anti-change, anti-trend, wich in his case, can result in anti-progress. I don't like that guitar-smashing stuff either. It's more for bands like Nirvana.

I've seen Malmsteen live here in Holland, probably 10 years ago. He did sort of the same thing there; he ripped all of his strings off, one by one. Everytime he did that, a big bang would sound through the amps. He also showed his wife at that performance. Later I heard that he made a habit out of that one.

He also used make up around his eyes then...

Despite all that stuff, I really do like Far Beyond the Sun. And I still think it's very interesting to realize the ease of right hand playing while other players are usually full of jerked, tensed movement.

Yeah, Yngwie's minimalist right-hand picking movement is something to behold. He does it with such ease. I've seen a lot of videos of his from ways back and the one I still enjoy the most is the Alcatrazz Live in Japan '84 Laser Disc. That's classic Yngwie as far as I'm concerned.

cool tune for sure, but his antics are so old and tired that it's embarrassing to watch.
