I'd prefer real football (soccer) or rugby any day over the American stuff...
How can a bunch I guys wearing helmets and padding be called real football players? I fail to see where the skill is...

No no no no... rugby players, much like American football players mostly use their hands... that is why I don't understand why you call it football! And rugby players have to be much tougher... they don't wear all that padding...

Interesting how the thread has digressed to discussing what "real" football is. I guess that's what an ocean in between two sides for the world can cause. Having lived in the US the great majority of my life, I certainly enjoy American "football" a lot more than real football AKA soccer. American football is the major sport in the US and is an indispensable part of the American cultural fabric - definitely more so than baseball and basketball. I guess the term "football" is a misnomer for the game, but I guess it really doesn't matter what it's called.
As for the padding that US football players wear, it can prevent major injuries from happening, but doesn't pad you from the pain of hard hits. It's still a very hard-hitting and violent sport and the mental part of it is a lot more involving that it may seem on the surface. There's a lot in the strategy aspect of the game as well - it's very military-like. I know I'm not going to convince others to like the game, but then, most Americans don't get soccer and rugby either. Just a case of the cultural divide, I guess... _________________ Ed Yoon

i couldn't watch 10 minutes of what you guys call "real" football aka soccer. different strokes for different folks. to me, soccer is about as boring as a sport can get. but hey, variety in this world is the spice of life, isn't it? |

Golf! I hear it's fun to play, but yeah, that's a pretty boring sport to watch.
I find that American football extremely banal and boring (each to their own, of course). I can see there is an element of strategy/tactic, but consider that more that the "coach" level.
These are just my inexpert opinions...
Wonder if Guthrie plays REAL football (soccer)?

Yeah, I gave it several tries and decided I don't have the time to devote to being decent at it. I may still get into it later, but yeah, hitting that little ball around is one frustrating chore for sure! _________________ Ed Yoon

Is golf really a sport? Isn't it more of a game?
Oh, and I have to put my vote on "real" football. I enjoy american football and try
to watch the superbowl every year, but there is a reason real football is the biggest sport in the world. _________________ Jesus saves, but Gretzky scores on the rebound |

It's a sport. You go hit a bucket or two on the range and your upper body could be sore for days. You go out on the course for the full 18-holes and it drains a lot out of you. It's probably more mental than physical, but I'd definitely say it's a very challenging sport. I wouldn't approach that game/sport without the utmost seriousness. _________________ Ed Yoon
