Just curiuos
I'm learning (very slowly), and have come to accept that since I can spend about 30 minutes a day practicing, I have to give up the dream of being super-technical and focus on timing, improvisation, and such boring stuff
What about you guys? |

I play just well enough to appreciate the gear I sell. I worked hard on technique and stuff like that back in the 80's and quickly realized that I'm not going to even begin to approach the guys that I'm really into. My roots is the 80's rock, shred, pop-rock, classic rock and I can dabble in some fusion kind of stuff, but I never got serious enough to put in the time to play real jazz and stuff like that. It's more of a hobby kind of a thing now as far as playing is concerned. I'd be able to gig through some Top 40 kind of stuff (which I've done in the past) but that's about it. _________________ Ed Yoon

i play well enough to enjoy playing and not embarrass myself. i can play somewhat fast, but my picking can never seem to catch up with my restlessly wandering left hand. my timing and phrasing need a lot of work as well and that's why i'm studying what guthrie is doing intently. |

I completely and utterly suck...I play at open mics and practice a lot but I still don't feel satisfied with my playing at all...not one bit.
My biggest weakness is musicality and composition. I'm not very imaginative as I always have bad habit of writing stuff that's just a springboard for wanking off. Chops is one thing I'm wrestling with too...but writing compositions that actually mean something is another hurdle altogether
My other biggest weakness is the ability to blow through changes, definitely not something I'm comfortable with yet. |

I think I am a a decent level, but want to get better ofcourse.
My problem is my lack of health, wich I have to work on first. I've temporarily quit quitar-playing because of this problem. I haven't been playing since februari 2005, wich sure is hard for me. I do believe that it is still possible to cure myself and when I feel ready, I'll pick up guitarplaying again.
While I'm not playing myself, I like to take the time to check out some other players. I recently discovered Shawn Lane and am glad I found Guthrie as well So thanks for the promoting, Ed! Without Tone Merchants, I probably wouldn't have heard from him yet. I really like that jan 19 DVD. I already know how all the songs go, but don't know their titles since I got the old DVD version. |

My problem was that I had loads of technique but nuthing to do with it.
I always thought exercises was fun, and when I read that my heros had practised something
like 10h/day I tried to do the same. I remember going to bed not being able to hold up the book
I read cause my hands were to weak from playing guitar.
But then I saw Vai's !0h practise schedule and realised that they did a lot of other things
than trying to exell on a technical level. So slowly but surely I started to focus on other things.
I even know the name of a few chords now
The last 4-5 years though, I haven't played much of anything at all up until before christmas
when I found my way back to our favorite instrument.
It is surprising how fast you lose your technique and even more surprising how fast
you can regain it(well, not all of it ).
