I showed a guitar student the video of Guthrie at the Cornford amp clinic and the kid said that it looked like Jesus playing the guitar! I told the kid that the guitarist was actually Guthrie Govan, but if Jesus was a guitar player they would probably play similar.

So first it was Vai and Satch that should be worried, and now it's Mel Gibson's turn Wink this chap Guthrie is making some enemies Very Happy

In reality Jesus was most likely to be black or at least dark color, with black hair and eyes, since he was born in the Middle East. That European look was a Middle Age invention. The same way that all heros are Americans nowadays (in the Hollywood movies at least)

Really? Hmmm... I hadn't considered that. But didn't Jews back then have a white-ish appearance? I can understand that the European look was made up somewhat to fit the European church's way of thinking, but are there any links you could provide saying that Jesus could have been black or much dark color?

I don't remember the exact name, but I saw it in a documentary, probably by the BBC. They did a model of the face based on some ancient skulls, and traced back the tribe that Jesus was in, or something like that, and decided that he was indeed dark color with black hair.

When the face was completed, with the skin and hair and everything, let me tell you it wasn't pretty Twisted Evil Evil or Very Mad

I'm not saying it takes anything away from his message of course.

In the UK any caucasian with a beard and long hair is likely to be called Jesus. Guthrie has got ribbed about it even by Zack's dad, the guy in the front row about 4 chairs across (every show), and he's a really affable guy.

I went out for a meal with my ex co- workers from 2000 amongst other circles we're known as "the german, the nazi, the commie and jesus" I get to be Jesus.

At uni I got called Jesus and cut my hair cos I couldn't take the stigma(ta)

Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Jesus was born a Palestinian, and thus would've had very dark skin.

I always thought he was a Jew.

This thread won't disintegrate into something weird about religion or socio-politics. We GG fans know better. Wink

I can't remember if it was "On the Road" or "Myra Breckenridge" or "Graveyard for Lunatics" that had tales of the hollywood actor who played JC in the movies and how he exploited the position to bed teens and housewives and drunk himself silly. That's the hollywood image of JC

Sergeant Baker, are you gonna pummel us with your own philosophy?

I think that Jesus can perform miracles, so if he wanted he could be like the guy in terminator 2 and clone himself into any image that he wanted, black, asian, white, samoan, or native american if he wanted. Jesus has mad chameleon skills.

not even guthrie govan possess that type of power.

On a serious Jesus note, I acutually read in a book one time that some ancient manuscripts said Jesus actully played some type of ancient lute before he preached and introduced modal playing.

Modal music most definitely existed long before Jesus' time. I don't think he, or any one individual, 'introduced' it.
