Kabuki. I like long walks on the beach, sunsets, good wine, honest people, and being intimate with...
Oh wait. Sorry. I've only been a fan a few months after being turned onto Guthrie via the Lane forum. Donnie B sent me the Tone Merchants DVD and I could not believe my ears and eyes!
Guthrie - YOU DA MAN! Come to New York some time, ok? |

Welcome comrade. Let's make a pact to keep all of the "skeleton" stuff over in the Lane Forum. That is until the admin decides to add a "Loony Bin" section _________________ What would we all do without guitars............. take up knitting? |

Yeah, Lane and Guthrie go hand in hand. I like to think that Lane "passed on the torch" to Guthrie before he left us.
Right coast operation... Well, let me get things all established and growing here on the Left coast first! This biz is still just a 2-year-old baby, but I don't think something like that is out of the question as time goes by. See you around! I have to get you the Guthrie jazz live DVD when I get the NTSC-compliant version ready. It's absolutely amazing. _________________ Ed Yoon

I'd like to think that as well. I mentioned a while back on the SL forum that after being a rabid Holdsworth fan since the mid 70s, Shawn was the only guitarist I had heard in years that totally freaked me out. Now, I can honestly say the same about Guthrie. His playing (especially on the Sugi) on your Cornford DVD - man, I must have played that until 5am when I first got it. I kept thinking "who the hell is this guy and where has he been?" That's exactly what I thought of Shawn as well when I first heard him.

If you are serious and are looking for partners, we should really talk down the road. Hurry up with that live DVD! |

Oh, Kabuki, your sig and the avatar are killing me! But I know what you mean. Imagine what was going through my mind seeing the whole thing live unfold in my own shop!!! It was really a religious sort of an experience for me. And I totally concur with you about that epic 5th track. That outro solo is so triumphant yet not brash and so full of emotion yet so controlled... That track, I agree, was the nail in the coffin for me. It totally sealed it for me as well. It was like my entire guitar music listening history was compiled and then magically illuminated within the few minutes of that solo by Guthrie.
Did you read the questions thread about Guthrie hearing from the Varneys that Lane had gotten to hear some stuff by Guthrie and said nice things about it? And how Guthrie was so touched by that? God, that's great stuff. It's really sad that they never got to meet. They could have done some really incredible stuff together that was actually extremely musical. For me, with otherworldly players like Lane, Guthrie, Metheny, and Holdsworth, it was never about the chops. Chops is just a given and it was all about what supremely musical things they were doing with their God-given talents. _________________ Ed Yoon

Ed - you and I are so definitely on the same page. As I felt with Donnie B., "this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship" or whatever that Casablanca line was I have to get BluesBitch to start posting here. I work on his guitars (70 or so) and he's a fret fanatic like us. I gave him the Cornford DVD and I am pretty sure he had to throw away the underwear he was wearing The torch has indeed been passed. _________________ ...the torch has been passed... |

Hi Carlo. I do remember you! I don't go to Glensite anymore but I hope we can all find mutual ground here. Guthrie is a nutjob player and we should all celebrate him. He's one of today's most exciting players and we all need to support him as much as we can! _________________ ...the torch has been passed... |
