I was reading some threads about Shawn Lane here....and some people have said that he made some 'insulting' comments about Shawn when Shawn died....what did he say because I can't find them on FG's forum..... |

I'm kind of curious about that myself. Perhaps you should ask on a Lane forum. _________________ Ed Yoon

I have no idea what the rumour is. I have been a member at Gambale's forum for about 4 years now - first forum I ever went to- and I can tell you that whatever you hear about Gambale badmouthing Lane is complete and utter bullshit.
What happened is someone posted a message the day Lane died, and Gambale said something like it was very sad because he was so young, and that's all.
The same thing happened to Ray Gomez when he said something about Lane and it got misquoted completely.
These were the 2 "incidents" where I did see the original comments by Gambale and Gomez. |

I browse FG's forum once in a while and I do remember reading a thread about SL around the time of his passing. I can't exactly recall his exact words but I do know for sure that there was no badmouthing involved (if he did, I DEFINITELY would have remembered it ). What sieuminh said is accurate. |

The `Lane` incident was that somebody mentioned Shawn Lane to Frank, and apparently Frank said something along the lines of `I don`t see what all the fuss is about`.
IMO the thing with Shawn was that his playing was so ridiculous, ahead of it`s time, and raised the bar by such a leap, that to appreciate his playing, all these well known guitarists who thought they were at a really good technical level would either have to surrender their ego to Shawn`s playing, or turn against it, and most of them seemed uncomfortable with how good Shawn`s playing was, so i think they turned a blind eye to Shawn! Shawn was a kind, sensitive person, and that kind of thing would upset him!

But if you're correct, this would mean the 'incident' happened a long time ago? Because I understood from the topic starter that the incident was shortly after Shawn passed away; wich is quite recently. |
