Wow! What an amazing acoustic fingerstylist! I just listened to his album called "Riddle" from 1999 and this guy is incredible. And you know what? I just got in touch with him (as he's another Southern Cal resident) and asked him if he'd like to perform here at the Tone Mecca and he said he'd love to! Seems he's headed to UK in October. Guthrie, you need to hook up with him! You mentioned him in your post about acoustic players and I had to dig into him. Here's the lowdown on Thomas:

We'll definitely have Thomas open up for Guthrie here during the NAMM festivities in Jan '05. If you guys want to take a break from searing distorted guitars for awhile, give Thomas a listen. You will not be disappointed! _________________ Ed Yoon

The "Riddle" album is in heavy rotation in my players now and I'll be getting the "Sparks" album as well. He's a true one-man band on the acoustic. The aggressive percussive stuff as well as all the contrapuntal independent lines with a beautiful sense of melody is mind-bending to say the least. This guy may be Guthrie's equivalent counterpart in the world of acoustics. _________________ Ed Yoon

He's leaving for UK on Oct. 6. All of you UK guys need to check him out while he's there! A truly amazing player and total sweetheart of a guy. Reminds me of someone who plays an electric... _________________ Ed Yoon

Here are some clips that give you an inkling of what this young man can do with his bare hands and an acoustic guitar:

Simply an incredible evening! Thomas reminds me of another super humble and low-key guy with incredible musical talent. Thomas' playing is otherworldly but down-to-earth and outright captivating and engaging. It's amongst the most enjoyable and memorable concerts of any kind that I have ever witnessed and that's saying a lot!
The sound in the Tone Mecca is just mind-bogglingly good. Yes, this is a true example of where the live sound and performance can easily exceed that of the recording. The environment is so intimate and the sound and the passion of the performer just engulfs you from top to bottom, left to right, inside and out. It was indeed a very special night. We (all of the audience) just couldn't get enough of Thomas' playing and the music. None of us wanted it to end.
I can assure you that Thomas will be a regular at the Tone Mecca. He'll open up for the high energy electric fusion guys and he'll also perform full-length solo concerts in the future on a regular basis. It's not just great playing but truly great music that can be enjoyed by all. And Thomas is such a sweetheart of a guy. We need to support talent like his. And we really want to support him because he's such an unassuming humble guy who just wants to play and bring joy to our lives. Simply beautiful and another incredible artist to contribute some magic to the fast-growing Tone Mecca legacy... _________________ Ed Yoon

Here are some photos from the sublime evening of totally captivating and engaging acoustic fingerstyle solo performance by Thomas Leeb:

You won't want to miss the next time he's here! I definitely plan on having Thomas be a regular performer at the Tone Mecca! It really sounded incredible in there. Thomas told me that his brother told him that the concert sounded even better than listening to his CD on a nice stereo system! _________________ Ed Yoon

I was lucky enough on Sunday to have a 3-hour masterclass with Thomas, followed by a great seat at one of his gigs.
There's really not much to say, other than the guy is the most talented acoustic player I've seen. Truly ego-shattering, and a masterful performance. And a really great guy as well.
If you get the chance to see him, take it. It will change your views on what can be done on an acoustic guitar.

Jordan, that must have been great. I really, REALLY enjoyed his show here a few weeks ago. One of the most memorable shows of any sort I've ever seen. I just didn't want it to end. Really a great down-to-earth guy as well. I can't wait to have him perform here again. _________________ Ed Yoon

Ed, that's absolutely how I felt. Its so great to see someone like that really enjoying the music and being such a nice guy with it. I don't know if you took your eyes off his hands, but during the performance he would occassionaly grin or laugh when he pulled off a particularly impressive 'move', almost as if he was impressing himself. What's worse, is that it made it look like he wasn't even trying at times.
I have nothing but admiration for the guy. A real consumate performer who deserves to be recognised worldwide. Keep up your support Ed, it looks like you're helping to give Thomas the exposure he deserves.
