I cheat.

I buy 11's and put a 12 top E.

My acoustic has 13's. When you've done a 3 hour gig on it, your fingertips know, and I don't do blues bends on acoustic!

there really is no point in using 13's for a high E. all you are gonna do is tear your fingers up. Chris Duarte told me that 11's give you the same thickness in tone and wont kill your hands. So therefore I use 11's and they work just fine.

GHS Lo-tunes. They'll be probably be the closest you'll find to SRV's, all you got to do is buy a 13 gauge.

11, 15, 19, 28, 38, 58

Nice strings but I never got on with the rollerwound concept. YMMV

Wanted to share a quick experience:

I used 12's for about 2 years and thought they were the end all be all gauge....then I stopped gigging for about 4 months and quickly lost my hand strength, so I had to move down to 11's to stay with it. Well, I liked the lighter gauge so much that I am now using 10s and have never been happier. There's nothing like the feeling of NO FATIGUE when you are 3 hours into a show.

I used to love wrestling the 12s around, and it really help me develop an aggressive playing style, but now I get the same sound and none of the painful cramping, aching, effects from playing telephone lines...lol.

Thought I would share that with you all.

I personally suggest Ernie Ball Not Even Slinkies along with some individual plain strings. Not Even's are 12-16-24-32-44-56 and I substitute the e and g strings for a 13 and an 18. I love the sound of Ernie Balls.

You gotta just man up and play the real thing. D'Addario EJ 22s: .013-.056 tuned E flat. It makes my guitar growl. It takes a couple months to build up your hand strength but it's worth it in your overall tone.

I got the exact set from http://www.juststrings.com. The bottom three are GHS Dynamite Alloys (Boomers) and the top three are GHS Plain Steel-Ball Ends (58-38-28-19-15-13).
