Hey guys,

I recorded some stuff with the band the other day with my new gear.

I spliced the solo's out of the songs (about 30 seconds long) to showcase the amps tone.

There's two clips up right now.

The clean clip is just Strat-->Fargen, and the dirty clip is Epi Dot-->RC Boost-->Fargen

I hope you like 'em!

It sounds good! Good playing, very tasty. And good tone too. However, if you wanna get funky you need to listen to some real funk and not some white blues rock guys who only know how to fake it. Your timing is good, it's just....white. Listen to some real funk and you'll know what time it is.

Peace.

Are you talking about the VV + BB clip? I wasn't trying to be funky, it just sounded like a cool progresssion to me, if it sounded kind of funky than that's okay. I am white, so that probably explains why it sounds white.

If I had said "Check out my funk clip" than I could understand you saying that. But I didn't, but if I want to get funky I'll listen to some funk guys, thanks for the advice. Very Happy

BTW, Tommy Castro is quite funky, and he's as white as they come.

Collectively as a band, we know ZERO about recording, LOL. I've only been at this about 5 years, and my bass player has only been playing for 3 years. Totally amatuer, but we tried!

I put the SM57 at the 45 degree angle to the cone as suggested by pretty much everyone. It was probably about 6-7 inches away from the grill cloth.

I always thought that the 'bigness' came from the room, but I guess TT's put the lie to that. Troy, is there any post-production on those clips or are they as is?

Well the drums were miced up with two Shure PG fifty something condensor mics, so I'm sure they picked up a little bit of guitar too, but not that much.

The only thing we did afterwards was add some reverb to vocals and drums. I added reverb to the guitar tone on Wind Cries Mary through our recorder and had a little coming from the amp.

Besides the normal mixing and mastering (which was as simple as sliding the sliders up and down, LOL), I imported the sound files into a free audio editing program called Audacity. I used that to compress the songs a little more, to get a more uniform sound. But all in all, what you hear is what you get, the recorder actually has some good mastering tool kits, so we just used the Hard Compression setting.
