These two arrived here on the same day. Now what are the odds of that happening even if I had tried? It's a real clash of the titans here. Two uniquely beautiful guitars with their own individual characteristics that make them more different than similar:

Say what you will about the aesthetic similarities of the finish job: they're both cool and different enough. To me, that Tyler finish looks very similar to the Ibanez Jem marble finish that used to be offered by them. Perhaps it's the gloss finish giving it more of that marble look. The Suhr really does look like paint drips done in an artistic manner. Both look cool but play and sound even better. _________________ Ed Yoon

I've never had a chance to try out these high end stuff, but they look just beautiful!
I'm especially impressed by the Tylers - including the headstock, exactly my taste would love to get one some day (in a very far future given the price )
I've noticed that these brands all have dealers in Singapore, Hong Kong,... but none in Australia somehow the music scene here is more conservative? all I see is Fender, Gibson and Ibanez
it's hard foe me to even sell a real good Washburn. no one wants to hear about a Washburn |

I'm very curious if Guthrie has tried a Tyler. It isn't a real "fast" guitar. It's got heft to its feel and sound. Way different from Suhrs in general. Personally, for myself, I'd take home a few Suhr Standards (like the one Guthrie plays the most now) and a Tyler Studio Elite Burning Water and the LA Studio Classic in some other shmear color. _________________ Ed Yoon

I do like the Tyler smear finishes, but if I was buying one for myself I'd be concerned that I'd end up with one I didn't like as much. That one in the picture is a beautiful one, as is the Arctic Mint one I've mentioned elsewhere (it was in Guitarist). However, I've seen ones I really don't like too - the Arctic Mint one and the Copper Patina one on the Tyler colour page look pretty bad IMO as they're sort of 'stripy' rather than being a sort of wash of different colours.
That said, I still love the finishes.
Interesting what you say about their character, Ed - you feel that they aren't shred guitars? I've never played one, so I can't venture an opinion. _________________ Mmmm...Sacrelicious. |

No, a Tyler wouldn't be my first choice to rip up and down the neck. It has a vintage sort of vibe and feel to it and has a really big warm sound. You pick it up and shred is really the last thing on your mind. _________________ Ed Yoon
