mines a bit on the crappy side.
i have about 400 quid to spend.
i was thinking of a getting a dean cadillac, but a mate said they're "made for metal" and i dont particularly want a guitar like that.
someone please advise me of a half decent guitar, that i could buy for £400.
and if i speak like some commoner, or my choice of words isnt up to scratch, then forgive me, cos hey, i'm only fourteen (and us northampton types aint the brightest bunch).

thanks to anyone who spends their own time replying. Smile

£400 on a guitar... hmm I'd go for an MIJ Strat.. in Pewter .. with a rosewood board and a modern 2 pin bridge.. then save up and get it rewired so tone #2 blends in the bridge pickup.. I'd want a 9.5" radius fretboard with vintage stainless steel frets.. gotoh locking tuners, buzz feiten nut and a plek setup (... woah!! I'm back here again :^)

The Dean Cadillac looks like an ExpLores Paul Wink If you like Les Pauls maybe try a Gordon Smith - staggeringly good guitars Cool or Tokai's also amazingly good, I don't really have an opinion about Dean as they're not my style at all; I like Strats and 335s and Teles and jazz boxes (and the occasional Jem or Caparison ;^) so I guess I'm a bit trad Wink

Being left-handed, I've spent years looking for a good guitar and I remember fidgeting around trying to save more money and fighting the urge to compromise! I made some really bad choices like a Vox Vigilante Amp, 1984 Fender Strat and I've made some great choices - the good choices were made with a lot of help and guidance from others - so that is possibly the best thing I can recommend.

Have a chat on here; there are loads of people with opinions - many of them extremely informed: either as teachers, pros, shop owners or makers.

What are you currently playing and has it been set up, what is it you don't like about it? Listing all these things will help you discover what you really want.

In my opinion no guitar is "made for metal", that kind of guitar is equally good at folk music with the added bonus of really upsetting narrow minded folky type (common to English shores ;^).

+1 on used mij strat. but you'll probably have to go through LOTS of them to find a great one.

an old ibanez 550 or 560 is a great guitar for the money if the bridge is in good shape. pups would have to be changed (on the fender as well a assume).

i'm quite fond of old 80s usa hamers for metal/shred. like them more than the 550/jem line.

i was going to buy a used strat to keep me busy while waiting for my suhr when i was living in new york a couple of years ago. i spent good time with something like 40-50 strats. usa, mim, mij, vintage, used and new, from 200$ to 5000$. the only specimens that i felt was worth buying was a 62 reissue and a real cheapo beat up mij strat. the eric johnson models are great though, and consistent (which doesn't go for the rest of the fender line as far as i have experienced).
