"My Perfect G3 Lineup"
I was reading in another thread about what would be a great G3 combo including GG, and I think this following line up would be good:
Guthrie Govan
Steve Morse
Eric Johnson
They all play Country, Blues and Rock... as long as it doesn't turn in a one big guitar masturbation event, I think it could have potential!!! But then again, if Satch is the guy organising it, probably means he has to be one of the G3... |

Yeah Satch & Vai have got to be included. in G3.
I would love to Guthrie ripping it up with those guys, as well as Mattias 'IA' Eklundh. That could make an interesting combination. |

It would. Would you put Guthrie and Mattias in one big jumper and hope Satch and Vai didn't notice the 4 legged shred monster had 2 heads? Or would you rename the G3 to G3+?

That would indeed be a great lineup. I know Guthrie is a big fan of both and I'm sure the two would think likewise of Guthrie. Now let's look at all the cool possibilities of Guthrie in a hypothetical G3 format:
The All-Around G3
Guthrie Govan
Steve Morse
Eric Johnson
The Rock Fusion G3
Guthrie Govan
Greg Howe
Brett Garsed
The Modern Extreme G3
Guthrie Govan
Bumblefoot
Mattias IA Eklundh
The Modern Shred G3
Guthrie Govan
John 5
Buckethead
The Progressive G3
Guthrie Govan
John Petrucci
Mike Romeo
The Fusion G3
Guthrie Govan
Scott Henderson
Wayne Krantz
The Neoclassical G3
Guthrie Govan
Yngwie Malmsteen
Tony MacAlpine
The Future G3
Guthrie Govan
Scott Jones
Joel Hoekstra
The Dream G3
Guthrie Govan
Shawn Lane
Jason Becker
The Classic G3
Guthrie Govan
Steve Vai
Joe Satriani

Haha... you've put a lot of thought into that list there Ed!
How about we swap out Yngwie in The Neoclassical G3 and replace with Vinnie Moore?
How about The Pure Jazz G3:
Guthrie Govan
Pat Martino
Mike Stern
Ahhh... the possibilities in Guitar Heaven are limitless.

I think Guthrie would say that he's got ways to go in jazz before he can play with the jazz heavyweights at this point in time. But eventually, we get him an archtop and have him woodshed on nothing but jazz for awhile and he'll get up to speed.
Pure Jazz G3
Guthrie Govan
Pat Metheny
George Benson (or Pat Martino as you suggested)
Fusion Jazz G3
Guthrie Govan
John Scofield
Mike Stern
Legends of Fusion G3
Guthrie Govan
John McLaughlin
Allan Holdsworth
Acoustic Trio G3
Guthrie Govan
John McLaughlin
Paco DeLucia
After we lock Guthrie away for a year with an acoustic... _________________ Ed Yoon

How about?
All-Out Shred G3
Guthrie Govan
Paul Gilbert
Vinnie Moore
Marty Friedman would also make a good alternate choice here.
Country Shred G3
Guthrie Govan
Brent Mason
Scotty Anderson
Johnny Hiland as alternate.
Slide G3
Guthrie Govan
Sonny Landreth
Derek Trucks
Not saying that Guthrie is quite in the leauge of these specialized masters... But you can bet that Guthrie would love to meet and play with them when given the chance! _________________ Ed Yoon

Hmmm... would it be overkill of we had a G33 lineup?!?!?!?
I'd like to see Guthrie jam with Robben Ford too... |

that's a sweet list (but I would replace Derek Trucks with Brett Garsed for the Slide G3) |

I really enjoy Vinnie Moore nowadays, more straight up rock and whatnot (not to mention mind-boggling crazy chops ). He and Guthrie would be quite a treat to see play together |

How about the..
Blues G3
Guthrie Govan
Robben Ford
Scott Henderson
Maybe we should call it blues-jazz, that would probably be more appropriate to describe their styles. |
