Apart from blowing us all away, the release of Guthrie's album has certainly got this forum buzzing like never before...

OMG!
Got mine in the post today! This album is better than I had ever imagined. I've got a lot of older guthrie recording from various sources, as well as the live at the bassment cd.
But the wait for Guthrie's proper debut release was worth it.
The playing obviously it goes without saying is astounding. The first track alone is jaw dropping! The first solo in Waves at 0:50 sounds like it's shawn lane playing, and that's not even a minute into the album, and it all gets, better from there! Guthrie is officially, more musical, more versatile, more wacky, more soulful, more intelligent than almost all other guitarists out there, he deserves his place in guitar and music history.
I really hope this album spreads as far and wide as it deserves to, and catches the attention of some important people.
If you don't already own it buy it! And don't let anyone copy it! |

Actually that's an interesting point. I certainly think Guthrie is the one of the most intelligent of electric guitar virtuosos out there, if not the most intelligent.
I wonder how intelligence affects creativity. |

Some incredibly intelligent people are also very bland. I think there's a great deal of creativity awaiting for someone with intelligence, but it may not be the IQ that results in greatness. It's all a matter of the person.
I'm VERY happy to say that I received my CD today. Nearly perfect condition (which is a lot to say when some CD cases get crushed in transit), minus one small crack on the back left corner. Hardly even noticeable. I haven't yet had time to listen to it, but I plan to do so very soon, and I shall let you all know what combination of words I wish to say.
Oh, so I guess that means the US people should be paying attention. At least the East Coast. _________________ My mind still refuses to acknowledge my existence... |

I think far more important than his intellect is his sense of humour. |

Surely an intellect and a sense of humour are linked.
Frank Zappa was extremely intellegent, articulate and overall very funny. But his humour was an intellegent humour, satirical and witty and wildy creative too.
I don't think you can divide the two up. You could argue (very weakly) that jim davidson is humourous but he sure isn't intellegent.
I agree that Guthrie's music is humourous, but it still has intellectual and creative weight to it.
BTW speaking of the zappa sensibility. I've now listened to guthrie's album a number of times and the song Uncle Skunk really reminds me of Vai's early playing. I never noticed bits of other players in GG's playing that much but listening to his album I can definitely hear players like vai and shawn lane jumping out every so often. |

I'm curious as to when you ordered too. I ordered mine on the 15th, the day before Mr. C said they were shipping, and I live in North Carolina. SO I am really hoping for a nice mailbox surprise tommorow |
